You might think this plant is a fun-spreading cobra, but it is actually the Cobra Lily (Arisema translucens), a very rare wildflower. The most distinctive feature of this flower is its transparent structure, which sets it apart from other Cobra Lily species. 

Scientists first recorded this species in the Nilgiri Mountains of South India in 1932.  This plant was thought to be almost extinct until it reappeared for about 80 years. In 2009, naturalist Tarun Chhabra rediscovered this rare plant in the Shola forests of Nilgiri after years of searching. In the field of botany, this discovery is regarded as a significant achievement.

This plant is only found in a small number of places today. Tea gardens and human activities growing around its natural habitat is threatening its existence.  Experts believe urgent steps need to be taken to protect this precious species.

  The preservation of such rare and one-of-a-kind natural treasures is our duty.
