India, not the FIFA World Cup, Was Hosted by these 14 Asian Nations. South Korea has participated in 12 FIFA World Cups, making it the most successful Asian nation in tournament history in terms of appearances (1954, 1986, 1990, 1994, 1998, 2002, 2006, 2010, 2014, 2018, 2022, and 2026). They defeated Czechia 2-1 on June 11 to begin their FIFA World Cup 2026 campaign.  


Since its debut at the FIFA World Cup in 1998, Japan has qualified for each of the following editions: 1998, 2002, 2006, 2010, 2014, 2018, 2022, and 2026. In 2026, Iran will compete in their seventh FIFA World Cup.

 In 1978, 1998, 2006, 2014, 2018, and 2022, they qualified for the tournament; however, they have never advanced beyond the group stage. 

Saudi Arabia will feature in the FIFA World Cup for the seventh time in 2026.  The Green Falcons previously qualified for the 1994, 1998, 2002, 2006, 2018, and 2022 editions.  Their most memorable World Cup result came in 2022, when they shocked eventual champions Argentina 2-1 in their tournament opener.

 North Korea has appeared in two FIFA World Cups, making its debut in 1966 before returning to the tournament in 2010.

 When it hosted the FIFA World Cup in 2022, Qatar was the host nation for the first time. The Maroons' qualification for the 2026 edition marks only their second appearance at football's most prestigious competition.

 Iraq made their FIFA World Cup debut in 1986 and have qualified for the tournament for only the second time in 2026.  They will play France, Senegal, and Norway in the FIFA World Cup 2026 group stage. 


When it first took part in the FIFA World Cup in 1938, Indonesia became the first Asian nation to do so. In their only match of the tournament, which took place on June 5, 1938, at the Stade VĂ©lodrome Municipal in Reims, France, as the Dutch East Indies, they were defeated 6-0 by Hungary. Israel made their one and only appearance in the FIFA World Cup to date in 1970. 

After finishing fourth in a group with Italy, Uruguay, and Sweden, they were unable to advance beyond the group stage. Kuwait made their one and only appearance in the FIFA World Cup to date in 1982. They lost two and drew one of their three Group 4 matches, all of which they lost. In 1990, the United Arab Emirates made it to the FIFA World Cup for the first and only time. 


After losing all three of their Group D matches, they were unable to advance beyond the group stage. Japan and South Korea co-hosted the 2002 FIFA World Cup, which China attended. In their maiden appearance at the tournament, China lost all three of their Group C matches and failed to score a single goal.

 In 2026, Jordan is scheduled to compete in their first FIFA World Cup. In the group stage, they will compete against Argentina, Algeria, and Austria in Group J. In 2026, Uzbekistan will also host its first FIFA World Cup. Portugal, DR Congo, and Colombia have been drawn in Group K with the White Wolves.
