Nepal To Reopen Probe Into 2001 Royal Massacre That Killed King Birendra

Nepal will reopen an investigation into the murder of King Birendra in 2001. One of the most shocking events in Nepal's history, the 2001 royal palace massacre, has been the subject of plans to reopen the investigation. The decision was announced by Home Minister Sudan Gurung, who said files related to the case would be reviewed again. 
 The massacre at Kathmandu's Narayanhiti Royal Palace claimed the lives of King Birendra, Queen Aishwarya and several other members of the royal family during a dinner gathering.  The tragedy reshaped Nepal's political landscape and ultimately contributed to the end of the monarchy.
