The Best Airlines in 2026, Ranked By Key Factors
The Best Airlines in 2026, Ranked By Key Factors
You can save money and stress with some airlines. Based on what travelers care most about, a new study determines which carriers will be the best in 2026. Passengers are looking for a new airline to fly with after Spirit Airlines was grounded permanently. However, choosing a new favorite can be more difficult than it appears, as different travelers require different things. Perhaps you would rather travel with a budget-friendly or on-time airline. It's possible that safety or checked bags are factors. Naturally, pet owners may want an airline that is good for their pets. These and other factors were used by WalletHub to select the best airlines. Do you agree with their list, or do you have a favorite of your own?

4 Airlines of Hawaii 57.95
5 Airways JetBlue 55.46

7 Airlines American 50.92

10 Envoy Air 44.46
Despite only leading
one of the five major criteria WalletHub used to determine the best of the
best, Southwest Airlines topped the list of the best airlines overall. Even
then, it was tied with four other airlines for the title of "Most
Comfortable." But the airline's real advantage was its consistency across
categories like reliability and safety.
Southwest stood out for having the fewest flights that were overbooked
and the fewest that were canceled. Despite the fact that third-place Alaska
Airlines is best known for its West Coast routes, it was still able to reach
the top as one of the best airlines. Again, consistency was important, just
like Southwest's performance. Alaska Airlines benefits from good marks for
comfort, safety, and pet-friendliness.
So which airlines
actually topped WalletHub’s key factors?
Southwest wasn't the
most affordable airline—that title went to Frontier Airlines. The budget carrier has consistently beaten
out the competition for travelers looking to avoid blowing their budget on
airfare. Additionally, Frontier ranked
highest as the safest airline. United Airlines might be a good option for you
if getting there on time is a top priority for you. They had the fewest
cancellations, delays, and denied boardings due to oversold flights. WalletHub
also named four airlines the most comfortable, with JetBlue, Hawaiian,
American, and Southwest all sharing the honor.
Why it's important. There are several reasons why you want to go with the best airline, or the best
airline for you.
If you're on a tight
budget, you might want to look for the cheapest ticket or pay a little bit more
for safe or on-time flights. Customer service and how you are treated for your
money can also make a big difference. You might choose an airline based on how
it helps you sometimes. For instance, frequent fliers may tolerate a particular
airline so long as they can earn frequent flier miles in exchange for special
discounts or rewards. Additionally, there are times when it's all about
convenience. A hub city is a centralized location where smaller flights can
connect to larger ones or where flight crews and pilots can work. Therefore, if
you live near a major city, you should stick with the airline that operates out
of your local airport to get the most out of deals or the routes you want.
Skywest may be the best airline you haven't heard of. Two-legged and four-legged passengers can
travel on the airline's regional routes in partnership with Delta, American,
United, and Alaska Airlines. Skywest got a boost in the WalletHub rankings by
tying with Envoy Air as the best airline for pets.
