The six most expensive wristwatches sold at Christie’s

1. Grandmaster Chime Reference Patek Philippe 6300A-010 - CHF 31,000,000 (Approx.  US$31.1m)

 The Grandmaster Chime Ref.  When it sold for CHF 31,000,000 in 2019 at Christie's, 6300A-010 set a new watch auction record. A masterpiece of contemporary horology, it is uniquely crafted in stainless steel and features a reversible case and dual dials in rose-gold and black ebony.  It exemplifies the highest level of mechanical sophistication with 20 complications, including five chiming modes, an acoustic alarm, and a date repeater. Beyond its technical prowess, the hand-engraved finish is a remarkable blend of artistry and precision.

2.  Patek Philippe Grande and Petite Sonnerie Minute Repeater Ref.  6301A-010 - approximately CHF 15,700,000 US$17.3m)

 This extraordinary Reference was sold at the Only Watch charity auction in 2024. 6301A-010 in stainless steel showcases a Rare Handcrafts blue-green flinqué enamel dial set with baguette diamonds.  Its Grande and Petite Sonnerie chiming modes, as well as a minute repeater on three gongs, are produced by its manually wound calibre, demonstrating unparalleled acoustic and mechanical mastery. Balancing technical innovation, hand-finished artistry, and elegant presentation on a matching alligator strap, the watch exemplifies modern complication and craftsmanship.

 3. Ref. Patek Philippe 2523 Pink Gold ‘Blue Enamel’ - HK$70,175,000 (Approx.  US$9m)

 Auctioned for HK$70,175,000 in 2019, this 1953 pink-gold Ref. 2523 features a rare double-signed blue enamel dial retailed by Gobbi in Milan.  It features Louis Cottier's patented two-crown world-time mechanism, which enables simple global timekeeping and is one of only seven pink gold examples ever produced. It is a classic mid-century Patek Philippe because of its flawless original condition, harmonious proportions, and historical significance. It is the perfect balance of technical mastery and aesthetic refinement. Reflecting the golden age of design from the 1950s, the vibrant enamel and elegant pink gold case work beautifully together. 

4. Ref. Patek Philippe 2523J Cloisonné "North America" - HK$66,625,000 (approximate US$8.5m)

 Ref. in yellow gold from 1955 2523J features a cloisonné enamel dial depicting North America, one of only three known examples.  Marguerite Koch created the intricate dial that shows the continent's geography in incredible detail and tonal variation. The watch demonstrates both technical sophistication and artisanal skill thanks to its two-crown world time system. Its finely finished case and calibre, combined with the vibrant, hand-painted enamel, make this timepiece a rare combination of functionality, aesthetic brilliance, and historical importance.  In 2023, it soared to HK$66,625,000.

5. Ref. Patek Philippe 2523J ‘Eurasia’ Cloisonné - HK$65,475,000 (Approx.  US$8.4m)

 The Reference from 1953. One of only three known Patek Philippe world-timepieces with a cloisonné dial depicting Europe and Asia, the 2523J "Eurasia" is one of the most prestigious models. The calibre 12 400 HU, adapted by Louis Cottier, is housed in the 35.5 mm yellow gold case, and the hand-painted enamel dial, attributed to Marguerite Koch, exemplifies the finest artisan craftsmanship of the time. This watch represents the golden age of Patek Philippe wristwatches and was sold in 2024 for HK$65,475,000. It combines mechanical ingenuity, artistic excellence, and historical prestige. 

6. Reference Patek Philippe Sky Moon Tourbillon 6002G - HK$45,450,000 (Approx.  US$5.8m)

 The Reference Sky Moon Tourbillon 6002G is a 44 mm white-gold, double-faced wristwatch featuring 12 complications, including a cathedral minute repeater, tourbillon, retrograde perpetual calendar, moon phases, sidereal time, and a northern-hemisphere sky chart.  The hand-engraved case and blue cloisonné and champlevé enamel dial exemplify Patek Philippe’s Rare Handcrafts mastery, while the complex movement demonstrates mechanical brilliance.  It sold in 2023 for HK$45,450,000 — a record for an online watch auction at Christie’s.
