The Beginning of Humankind:
The emergence of our earliest ancestors in Africa marks the beginning of human history. Fossil evidence suggests that hominins, the group that includes modern humans and their close relatives, appeared around seven million years ago. Over time, species such as Australopithecus evolved to walk upright and use simple tools. Because bipedalism freed the hands for tool-making and more difficult tasks, these developments laid the groundwork for human progress. The genus Homo emerged about 2.5 million years ago, with Homo habilis often considered the first true human species. They crafted stone tools, hunted, and gathered food, laying the groundwork for survival strategies that would define humanity. Later, Homo erectus spread beyond Africa, adapting to diverse environments and mastering fire, which revolutionized cooking, protection, and social interaction.
## The Rise of Modern Humans Homo sapiens first
appeared in Africa approximately 300,000 years ago. With larger brains and
advanced cognitive abilities, they developed language, art, and symbolic
thought. Cave paintings, carvings, and
burial rituals reveal a growing sense of identity and culture. Migration out of Africa began roughly 70,000
years ago, leading humans to inhabit every continent except Antarctica.

Roman roads, aqueducts, and governance influenced later societies
profoundly.
Mathematics,
medicine, and literature were all developed in India under the Maurya and Gupta

facilitating global connections.
