The Fossil Egg's
The Fossil Egg's beautifully preserved dinosaur embryo sheds new light on the evolution of birds. A remarkable fossil known as “Baby Yingliang” has given scientists one of the clearest views ever of a dinosaur before it hatched. Discovered inside a fossilized oviraptorosaur egg in southern China, the embryo is so well preserved that researchers could study its body position in extraordinary detail.
The embryo was found
curled up in a "tucking" position resembling that of a bird, just
before hatching, like modern chicks. This suggests that the behavior may have
evolved in non-avian dinosaurs millions of years before modern birds appeared,
strengthening the evolutionary link between dinosaurs and birds.
The discovery offers
a rare glimpse into dinosaur development and helps scientists better understand
how ancient theropods evolved into the birds we see today. Fossils like Baby Yingliang continue to
reveal that many "bird" behaviors actually began in their dinosaur
ancestors.
