One of the world's longest trains (or trains) is located in Mauritania, Africa, and crosses a portion of the Western Sahara.  This train runs from the city of Zouérat, in the middle of the desert, to the coastal city of Nouadhibou.

 This train is used to transport iron ore and runs along a 700-kilometer-long railway line.  The train, including all its freight cars, is approximately 3 kilometers long and carries about 20,000 tons of cargo in a single run.  It is considered the backbone of Mauritania's economy.

 Although they are freight trains, many people also use them as a means of transportation.  Although it is permissible to ride in the freight cars, the journey is extremely hazardous. There is no protection from the sun, and temperatures usually exceed 40°C.  Furthermore, you will be inhaling iron ore dust, making it a harsh journey.
