Sometimes, the smallest observation can lead to a big breakthrough.

At just 10 years old, a young boy named Nagai from Japan noticed something unusual.

 The butterflies he had cared for as caterpillars seemed to recognize him even after they became butterflies.

 Instead of ignoring it, he became curious.

 He observed.

 He asked questions.

 He continued to learn. And his observation helped support research showing that butterflies may retain memories from their caterpillar stage.
