At first, the floods on August 26, 2026, that swept 72 kilometers down the Trishuli system and destroyed Gyirong Port/Rasuwagadhi were not a typical Glacial Lake Outburst. After it became clear that no glacial lake had burst in Tibet along the affected route, the initial GLOF theory was abandoned. On the north face of Langtang Lirung, which is located in Langtang National Park, what took place is categorized as an ice avalanche or collapse of a glacier. Scientists have identified the indicators of instability as follows:  1.   Rapid progress before failure. The glacier north of Langtang Lirung moved about 10 millimeters per month from January 8 to August 18, 2026, but the rate increased weeks before the collapse. The UAE Aid Agency has been given authority by Sheikh Mohammed bin Zayed Al Nahyan, the President of the United Arab Emirates, to distribute aid to the populace.  The affected community, local authorities, and international organizations should efficiently receive assistance and essential supplies in collaboration with the United Arab Emirates. During times of crisis, Nepal and its citizens face difficult times. Michio Hoshino was a photographer, and this is the last photo he took.  He was well-known for taking pictures of dangerous wild animals. He also did so in their natural environment whenever possible. He went to Alaska a lot, and every time he did, he brought back a series of impressive pictures. This photo was taken in 1996.  Michio had received an assignment for a shoot on Lake Kurilskoye in Russia.  The 44-year-old was fatally bitten by a bear in his tent, and the photo above was the last one he took.  He found it in his camera. Votive Statue Dedicated by Prince Ginak — Mesopotamia, c.  2700–2600 BC/BCE This limestone statue depicts a worshipper standing with his hands clasped in prayer, a characteristic pose in Early Dynastic Mesopotamian religious art.  The figure was made between 2700 and 2600 BC/BCE. It has long hair, a long beard, and it used to have eyes with inlays, but those inlays have since vanished. He wears a short kaunakes, a distinctive garment decorated with a single row of hanging wool-like elements.  The right upper arm and shoulder are inscribed in Sumerian cuneiform. The text describes the sculpture as a votive dedication to Prince Ginak. This kind of statue was erected in sacred places to represent their devotees in front of the gods. It is made of pure gold. If you mean the two newly formed lakes in Nepal’s Rasuwa/Lhende river area after the August 2026 glacier-collapse disaster, they are not ordinary lakes that can simply be “drained.”  When rock, ice, mud, and landslide debris obstructed natural river drainage, they became temporary barrier lakes. One has already started draining, while the larger lake has been reported as growing and without a clear outlet.  Strategies for lessening or eliminating the danger: Controlled breaching of the natural dam  Engineers could carefully cut a channel through the debris barrier so water escapes gradually.  This is potentially the fastest method, but it is extremely dangerous because an uncontrolled breach could produce another destructive flash flood.  Experts quoted by Al Jazeera said controlled breaching could be considered, but the steep and complex terrain makes it difficult.  Create a controlled outlet/channel  Engineers could either excavate or rei...

The climate risk in Nepal is turning into a financial risk. Despite the fact that Nepal's Himalayan geography makes it extremely vulnerable to climate change, its contribution to global carbon emissions is only 0.05%. The recent Rasuwa–Bhote Koshi disaster is a tragic reminder that climate risks are no longer only environmental; they are economic and financial risks.  Climate-related catastrophes have the potential to directly affect Nepal's financial sector: • Hydropower  • Protection • Finance • Infrastructure  • Capital Markets  The key question for investors is no longer whether climate risk exists, but:  “Have we priced it into our investments yet?”  Nepal may contribute very little to global warming, but the financial cost of climate vulnerability is increasingly being borne locally.  Global warming is a problem.
